Assessment #3: Original ending for a Knight’s Tale

What made him shiver and shake, is that when he got to the cave, dark, with water, he couldn’t believe what his eyes were seeing. It was a monster not seen before, it was a completely different species from the others, but at the same time, it had something that made it similar to the others. It was like a mixture of all the creatures he had previously killed. The monster was very tall, it was black, with gray spots that made it look darker. It had extremely sharp and bloody teeth. His mouth was so and so big, that when he roared, the air that came out of his mouth, the knight went backwards. The monster’s breath was horrible, as if it hadn’t washed its mouth in years. It was wet, it had different powers. Fire, air and electricity were his greatest friend, he could use them whenever he needed. The knight had never felt so suspicious, but why? if he was adept at killing strange creatures and defending himself in every way. Not even he himself knew the irrational fear he felt. The only thing that went through his mind was how he was going to kill that strange creature and how many of them there were around the world, because according to him there had to be more. His head was full of thoughts of how he could defeat them. He had so many alternatives and so many ideas, but he couldn’t concentrate. Every time he looked forward the monster was closer to him, he had to react somehow and it had to be soon. So he decided to invent a plan A, which was based on confronting the creature, yelling at it and hitting it on the head, because according to his experience that worked. When the creature got closer, that’s exactly what he did, he faced it, yelled at it and hit it on the head, but this didn’t work at all. The strange creature became more and more furious and decided to attack. His first attack was fire, the knight tried to dodge the fire, but unfortunately he had several burns. In that journey of dodging all fire, plan B was invented. This plan B was less effective, in his experience. This plan was about combining plan B with Plan A, in which plan B tried to tell them nice words, endear them, and then collapse. That was exactly what he did, but he had the good fortune to start with Plan A, before Plan B and when he did it he became more furious than he was and when he mixed it with Plan B, and began to say nice words to him, everything began to change. . The creature began to calm down, and when the gentleman saw that it was working, he decided to go for Plan C, which although it had never worked for him, but he felt that this time it was going to work for him. So he decided to treat the creature with love, until it calmed down, everything calmed down and the creature left. The knight also left and concluded that not all creatures are the same.

The first sentence is about your future is created by what you do today not tomorrow. It tells us that we must go little by little creating what we want for our future, in order to have everything shaped as we want it.

The second phrase says the following: “He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home”, which was written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It tells us that peace in our homes is super important, because if you don’t find it there is where you can find it the most. That is why many times the home is so sacred and is our greatest distraction.

The third phrase tells us “to be the best you must be able to handle the worst”. The reality is that this is so right, since many times everything is fine, but the reality is that it is not, since there are always external things and people that are “the worst” for us. This being a factor that helps us to be our best version in life.

The last sentence, but not less important, says the following: “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself”. Reading this sentence I think that most of the time we focus on the people around us and do not focus on how we feel ourselves. This affects us in all aspects.

Miscellaneous Task #3: “I’m Your King!” (video clip: Monty Python and the Holy Grail-1975)

In the last class, we were watching a video entitled: “I’m Your King”. This video deals with the legend of King Arthur in parody form. In addition, it presents how King Arthur arrives at a “mini village” which they knew absolutely nothing about. King Arthur, upon learning of this, was offended and ordered them to respect him because he was the “king”. However, even though Arthur said that, the peasants of the village did not respect him, since they had never had a king and had no duty to do so. Therefore, it can be said that there was disrespect from both people, which could be avoided. On the other hand, the peasants explained to the king what their system of government was like, since they criticized the way the king did it.

Reading/Writing Task #2: Activity II: 22 August – 2 September

During the past classes I have reflected on several phrases highlighted in the class. These phrases have inspired me to be able to think beyond what is normal and turn around what I have heard and read in class.

International Women's Day 2021: Women in tech | Leeds University Business School | University of Leeds
Geoffrey Chaucer
August 23, 2022

The first phrase says the following: “What is better than wisdom? Women and what is better than a good woman? Nothing”. This phrase was written by Geoffrey Chaucer, who inspires every woman in a positive way. Sincerely, we, as women, know that we are worth too much and that there is nothing more beautiful than the creation of women in all senses and aspects. We consider ourselves strong, intelligent, mysterious and there is nothing that reaches our feet.

Prologue to the Canterbury Tales in Middle English

In addition, on the other hand, we saw a video which is titled as “Prologue to Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales”, which talks about a prologue that is being read in a totally different way from what English is today, since it mentions words as they are written and sometimes it seemed that he was speaking in Spanish due to differences in pronunciation.

Las 10 diferencias entre ser inteligente y ser listo
Geoffrey Chaucer
August 25, 2022

The second  phrase that was given in class says the following: “The greatest scholars are not usually the wisest people.” It mentions that not all people who tend to be responsible, studious and intelligent, does not mean that they really are, they simply pretend to be that way.

Martin Luther quote: Nothing good ever comes of violence.
Martin Luther
August 29, 2022

Another of the phrases that were mentioned in the past classes was one that Martin Luther said, which says that “Nothing good never comes with violence.” Actually, in my opinion, one does not need to be violent in order to be a good person, one must always demonstrate values and be able to live in empathy and camaraderie.

The fourth sentence says the following: “Because it is better to die with honor than to live in dishonor.” When reading this reflection, several thoughts have come to me which agree with this phrase. And it is that in my thinking I understand and assimilate it in a certain way. Honestly, I prefer to lead a good life, a life in which everyone knows me as a good person, an educated, respectful and intelligent person. I prefer that when I die they know me as one of those people, before they die as a person of a bad temper in all existing senses.

The last sentence says the following: “A kind heart is like a slow poison for a warrior”. When I read this sentence I think that it is very right because a warrior having feelings makes him more sensitive and weak. Nowadays if you are too good with people and you don’t get that same treatment back you feel super bad. Many times we do not realize what we give and we are treated badly and we feel inferior.

Finally, sometimes it is good to reflect on some things in life. These phrases helped me to be able to get out thoughts that were once in my mind and I didn’t turn those existential thoughts and ideas around.
