Reading and Writing Task #13: NPR News Article on Shooting in Dadeville, Alabama

Armas de fuego: estos países restringieron su uso tras recientes tiroteos - Más Regiones - Internacional - ELTIEMPO.COM

Violence has become the current new trend among adolescents and adults. At present we can see how people tend to shoot up schools, shopping centers, even home communities, simply to satisfy their inappropriate needs. Usually these people tend to have too much anger in their hearts or with people from their past, so they decide to do this type of violence.

Currently thousands of people have disappeared due to school shootings in the United States. These people who decide to kill other regulatory people are so cowardly that they decide to do it in schools where there are children or adolescents, who are still in the development of growth and perhaps cannot defend themselves. As far as “violators of the peace”, it is difficult for them to do this type of thing in these school communities. These people tend to have a super damaged and “crazy” mind, due to the thoughts they have during the day. Surely, we can see that today shooting deaths have taken over the entire world, specifically and as mentioned above the United States. This type of violence with firearms has surpassed automobile accidents as the main cause of deaths among children and adolescents.

However, for this type of violence to end all over the world, deeper laws must be made, so that weapons cannot be sold to anyone, except police officers or people certified by the government. If we continue with this gun violence, unfortunately, society will be at more risk than it is right now. This may make people more afraid to leave their houses, because of these armed people.

“Lessons from Silent Spring for Controlling Disease”

The end of DDT

DDT is an insecticide utilized in the 2nd world war to combat the many bugs and the mosquitoes who carried malaria. In that time people used it daily. There were different types of formulas and methods that people used to apply it. One of these being a spray can. Despite the fact this insecticide had a very successful start, it’s hard to ignore the internal damage that it does to people. This insecticide was used in many different places especially throughout America in forests, parks, lawns and much more. The damage and poison this can bring can be transferred even through a mothers breast milk to her children.

Rachel Carson, was a woman who wrote a book titled: Silent spring. This book/Article wrote about the contamination and effects on humans and nature of the chemicals and materials present inside DDT and other insecticides. After she published her book she wasn’t believed in at first but after a government research backed her up. People stopped using so much DDT. After a while people started to notice the rising cases of Malaria in many places especially in Africa. People decided to blame her for this for being the catalyst to ban DDT and some people even went as far as calling her a Mass murderer.

The real problem is the mosquitoes. They are pesky creatures who constantly develop and evolve and they’ve become mostly immune to normal methods of taking care of them like DDT. Scientists are trying to use the evolutive of nature against them to learn how to counteract them. They are easily the most dangerous animal on the planet right now and these scientists work everyday to combat their effects and diseases. In time more cures and solutions have been found but the mosquitoes always remain a threat.

Spring Break Vacations

A week can be fun and relaxing, so a carefree week can be brutal. Many times a week without school or without studies can relax us. However, we cannot rule out that we can also do other things that we had pending, apart from school things. On the other hand, during Spring Break, we usually have a free week, but this week is to connect with God, almighty, even so, because we have other loads on us and we don’t connect at all well.

Additionally, I must mention that in previous years I have enjoyed spring break to the fullest. During the pandemic I went on vacation to Orlando, and it turned out to be the best vacation, mainly because we went to the parks and there were no lines to enter the attractions. On these vacations I was with my grandparents, cousins, aunts and my sister. I really had unforgettable moments and although I don’t rest completely, I can say that it was an unforgettable experience.

I would love to be able to go on vacation to Spring Brake again, to be able to share more with my family. However, although I would love to go to Orlando again, I would still like to experiment and go to other places and visit other parts of the world.

Reading and Writing Task #12: “Pro and Con: Banned Books”

Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence | Goodreads
Banned Book

Books are super important for learning and fun for human beings. Without them we cannot satisfy our reading needs. Many times when we read we can imagine many things, since when we read a book or a novel without any kind of cartoons we can get to see the things that happen while we read. Most of the time, many of the readers are adolescents or children, since from a young age they teach us to read stories and when we reach adolescence in high school they force us to read novels, or else we are born with the gift of being able to read. many books for charm.

As mentioned above, many of the readers tend to be children or adolescents, which can lead them to start reading novels with double entendres. Many of the parents buy their children books to satisfy their reading needs, but many times these parents do not know exactly what the story that this novel tells is like. From what I think, parents should be in control of what teens read. In order to avoid these consequences, parents should look for references to the novels or stories that they are going to buy for their children. Parents could request that these books or novels be banned.

However, I am a person who is not interested in reading, so I have never been restricted from reading any book and I have not had any feelings about it. On the other hand, if I have read books in English, but they have not been banned, that is, their content has been suitable for my age.

Assessment #10: Facts and Fake News: How to tell the difference

Two librarians from different universities whose names are Tedford and Womack know how this type of false and true news tends to affect the world. Tedford mentions how the type of misinformation that was passed around or spread around had an impact on the lives of all of us. So we must read the article and see that the headlines will not always tell the whole story. Verifying our own bias will help us not to trust completely, that is, not because we voted for, or love that person that appears in that article, does not mean that this information is correct.

We have to verify the type of source we use for the information we want to read. If we do not analyze the type of source in which we are reading, we can make ourselves read information that is wrong. There are two types of sources that give us completely wrong information, such as The Media Bias Chart and NewsGuard. When reading from the side, it will help us see beyond where that news is being announced or read.

To culminate, as mentioned in the article, we must inform ourselves and pay for articles, news that are reliable. Do not get carried away by what various unreliable sources say, doing this harm to humanity.
